What good looks like

One clear identity.
Nothing competing with it.

An effective LPN label lets the operator find and scan the handling-unit identity quickly. Extra information can helpâ€”but it should never make the primary barcode difficult to recognise.

Unique identifier

Each active pallet, tote or handling unit needs one unambiguous identity. Avoid reusing a number while it remains active in the system.

Readable barcode

Provide adequate size, contrast, bar height and clear space. Match the symbology and print quality to the scanners in use.

Human-readable text

Print the encoded identifier so an operator can key it in if scanning fails. Keep the characters clear and easy to distinguish.

Useful supporting data

Add only information that helps the task: item, quantity, receipt, destination, status or dateâ€”depending on the workflow.

Correct material

Choose the adhesive, facestock and print method for the surface, temperature, moisture, abrasion and required label life.

Controlled placement

Apply labels consistently, keep them flat and avoid wrap, seams and old barcodes that could cause the wrong scan.

GS1 checkIf the logistics unit must be identified across organisations using an SSCC, the GS1 Application Identifier is (00) and the SSCC is commonly encoded in GS1-128. That is different from a purely internal WMS LPN.
